street of kathmandu

The place where tourist first arrive. The place where the heads of the country live. The capital, the heart of the country,  KATHMANDU. Well the video needs no explanation cause its shows how rich, country loving and respecting, people and government of Nepal really is......

       KATHMANDU

Capital of Nepal, the only metropolitan city Kathmandu is also the headquarter of SAARC. With the population of 975,453+, including the most intelligent and economically rich citizens of the country it has been ranked as the third most polluted city in the world.

Kathmandu is the gateway to tourism in Nepal. It is also the hub of the COUNTRY'S ECONOMY. It has the most advanced infrastructure of any urban area in Nepal, and its economy is focused on tourism, which accounted for 3.8% of Nepal's GDP in 1995/96. Tourism in Kathmandu declined thereafter during a period of political unrest, but since then it has improved a lot. In 2013, Kathmandu was ranked third among the top 10 travel destinations on the rise in the world, and ranked first in Asia. And now it has been ranked as one of the most polluted cities in the world.

The city of Kathmandu is named after Kasthamandap temple, that stood in Durbar square. In Sanskrit, kastha means "wood" and Mandap means "covered shelter". Many people often described it as ' The city of woods". However in recent times wooden houses has been undertaken by concrete buildings and of course garbage all around. Well  it wont be wrong to say, it is on its way to be named as "The city of pollution". During medieval times, the city was sometimes called  Kantipur. This name is derived from two Sanskrit words - kanti and pur. "Kanti" is one of the names of the Goddess Laxmi, ( goddess of wealth) and "pur" means place.  The place where goddess Laxmi dwells. But a very popular saying in Hindu says that goddess Laxmi loves and dwells in clean place, she hates dirt and pollution. This can be assumed as a reason why Nepal cannot rise economically since it is still unable to utilize its resources including the garbage.

Kathmandu is rich in 5 types of pollution, Air, Land,Noise, Water and Visual pollution.

What makes the air polluted in Kathmandu? The first and foremost reason is its location. The city resides in a bowl-shaped valley, and this greatly enhances the likelihood of air pollution problems. The valley's unique shape prevents the escape of industrial and vehicle fumes. In recent decades, the air pollution in Kathmandu has worsened, due to the rapid rise in the number of inferior quality vehicles on the traffic congested roads, as well as the unregulated location of industries, particularly brick manufacturing and of course the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, gas, plastic products like plastic bags in addition to it harmful off-gasing from things such as paint and so on.

Litter found on the side of the road and illegal dumping in natural habitats are the main reason for land pollution in Kathmandu. And the loud sound produced by the vehicles, speakers during festivals, marriage parties and etc are main cause for noise pollution in Kathmandu.

For the people of the Kathmandu valley clean river water is only a myth. Today the rivers can only be said to be clean at their source and river pollution has become a major problem in the valley. The major rivers of the valley like Bagmati, Bishnumati, and Tukucha are no longer the important natural resources that they once were. This is because of the lack of management of the drainage system of houses and local industries at a time of increasing urbanization. Even the outlets of hospitals flow directly into the rivers. However some governmental as well as some NGOs with the help of citizens are working on it but even though its a long long way to go.

Advertisements, advertisements, advertisements everybody want to earn more and more, everyone wants to be known that's why you see advertisement on walls, electric poles, everywhere on street. It has also become a medium to protest, to encourage and so on. Visual pollution is one of the reason to make city look ugly and of course cause of accidents.

Well we often find people of Kathmandu complaining all about it and everyone has one place to blame it all, GOVERNMENT. Which means they want to blame themselves indirectly. The reason is, they are the reason for all this pollution and who doesn't know, its them who elected them to make the government.

SO UNTIL AND UNLESS PEOPLE OF KATHMANDU, REALIZE THAT THEY ARE THE GOD WHO MADE THE GOD (GOVERNMENT). NOTHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN. WELL SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN, KATHMANDU IS ON THIRD POSITION RIGHT NOW, AND CONGRATULATION IN ADVANCE KATHMANDU YOU  SHALL BE ON THE TOP.  BRAVO!

                   HIP HIP HURRAY!
